The German top club is aware of the limited transfer fee (more than 2 million euros) of the Ajax coach and is prepared to pay it. Leipzig’s interest in Ten Hag is not entirely new. Last December, the Germans also inquired about the services of Ten Hag, when then trainer Jesse Marsch was sent off.
Now, after an initial meeting between the club and Ten Hag, Leipzig made the trainer an excellent multi-year offer. Although Manchester United were on pole position to bring in the success coach, the battle seems to be wide open again. However, the Red Devils can easily compete with other clubs financially. Much will therefore depend on the sporty picture that Ten Hag is presented with.
Breaking Bayern’s hegemony
The tukker has been shielding several options for some time. With the arrival of the Dutch coach, Leipzig wants to try to break through Bayern Munich’s hegemony in the Bundesliga.
Ten Hag has been Ajax’s trainer since December 2017, then as the successor of Marcel Keizer. In 2019 and 2021 he took the double with the team from Amsterdam. In his first full season as coach of the Dutch record champion, he made an impression in the Champions League by reaching the semi-finals in the million-dollar ball. This season, Ten Hag again wintered in the Champions League.
