RB Leipzig has celebrated the first title in its young club history. In a thrilling DFB Cup final, coach Domenico Tedesco’s team defeated SC Freiburg, who had been outnumbered for a long time, on penalties. Despite the disappointment, sports club coach Christian Streich emphasized his team’s strong season. Final votes:
Domenico Tedesco (RB Leipzig coach): “It was a very good game from us, especially in the second half when we were outnumbered. We are very, very happy. I can’t really put my mind to it yet, it feels very good. I can only praise the lads for this amazing performance. The team was totally intact, I made a few changes, a few adjustments.”
Christian Streich (Coach SC Freiburg): “We played an incredibly great season, a great first half. When we then led and the red card came, we were a little bit scared because we played one or the other ball too long. But that’s whining high level, we’re going to play in Europe next year. The fans are grateful, that’s right, the team are doing incredible things.”
Oliver Mintzlaff (Managing Director RB Leipzig): “It’s crazy. We played an incredibly bad first half. It’s unbelievable that it still worked out. The first title in our short club history. We’ll let it rip today. It’s a historic evening for us.”
Emil Forsberg (RB Leipzig): “I have no words. Winning like that is just amazing. It shows the passion, the mentality, I’m very proud and happy.”
