The Bundesliga soccer team RB Leipzig will wear Puma brand jerseys from next season.
Puma will become the club’s exclusive partner from July 1st, both sides announced on Tuesday. As part of the collaboration, the sporting goods manufacturer will in future “equip all teams from the men’s, women’s, youth and eSports sectors as well as the football school with its products”. The partnership also includes “extensive sponsorship and merchandising rights, advertising services around match days in the Red Bull Arena and the RB Leipzig Football Academy as well as digital activations.”
This marks the end of the Saxons’ long-standing collaboration with the US brand Nike, which had been the supplier since 2014. There had been speculation in the media for weeks about a possible move to Puma. According to reports, the partnership that has now been announced is significantly more lucrative for the Bundesliga club than the previous equipment contract with Nike.
Managing director Johann Plenge explained the club’s decision: “Puma is young, dynamic and fast and with these values fits our club and the RB Leipzig DNA perfectly,” he explained in a statement. “We are very pleased to have entered into a long-term partnership with such a renowned company.”
For the Bundesliga club, the collaboration with Puma is “another big and important step in its development,” said Plenge. “We will not only benefit from first-class know-how and equip our teams for the greatest possible success, but also implement projects together and promote innovations in football.”
