RB Leipzig: Schröder reveals Werner plan

Timo Werner hasn’t been able to convince much in the season so far and therefore has to worry about his ticket to the European Championship. However, the attacker will not be given up in the winter, as sports director Rouven Schröder has now revealed.

If Rouven Schröder has his way, Timo Werner should not leave the reigning cup winners RB Leipzig early. A change is also not necessary so that the 27-year-old might increase his chances of being invited by national coach Julian Nagelsmann to the next international matches – and especially to the home European Championship.

“I’m assuming he’ll play the second half of the season with us,” the Leipzig squad planner told “Bild”: “We know what he’s capable of doing, he has to get it back on the pitch. We’ll see everything else, Football is a daily business.”

RB Leipzig wants to extend Klostermann’s contract soon

Schröder had already spoken out clearly against a transfer of Werner after reports about an alleged transfer approval had made the rounds. The Stuttgart native’s contract runs until 2026; rumors had recently spread about a possible return to England. Premier League club Aston Villa is reportedly interested.

According to Rouven Schröder, full-back Lukas Klostermann, whose contract expires in the summer, should also stay.

“We would like Lukas to extend. He is important for us, a seasoned player, he has an incredible history in our club,” emphasized Max Eberl’s successor: “I think that we will have clarity on this soon also want to have it. The cards are laid.”

Former Barcelona talent should leave again

Meanwhile, the former Barcelona talent Ilaix Moriba, who has not yet been able to assert himself in Saxony, is facing a winter change. “We are confident that a loan deal will work out this winter, because one thing is clear: he has to play,” Schröder made clear.

Moriba was trained at Barca’s talent factory La Masia, and moved to Leipzig in 2021. Since then, the midfielder has only made six competitive appearances for the Bulls; he spent the last two years on loan at FC Valencia. Schröder clarified: “Ilaix has trained well for the last six months, behaves perfectly, Marco also has a very good exchange with him. But there is a lot of competition in his position. Ilaix is certainly interesting for many clubs, but it’s also possible It’s always about what the player wants.”
