RB Leipzig: Rouven Schröder after Schalke-Aus candidate for sports director post

“Image” report

Rouven Schröder is associated with RB Leipzig after leaving FC Schalke 04. As the “picture‘ reported, Max Eberl, who officially takes up his job as sporting director of the ‘Red Bulls’ on December 15, wants to add personnel support for the sporting area. A trail should therefore lead to Schröder, who is being traded as a possible candidate for the post of sports director from next year.

According to Schalke on Wednesday, the 47-year-old had asked for the early exit from his contract, which was valid until 2024, for personal reasons. Schröder only joined the Royal Blues as sporting director in the summer of last year and was responsible, among other things, for direct promotion back to the Bundesliga. Born in Arnsberg, he recorded a transfer plus of 46.6 million euros during his tenure and caused the squad value to increase from 31.6 to currently 56.7 million euros, which is enough in a national comparison to 17th place. Because Schröder’s contract is currently on hold, Schalke hopes to receive a transfer fee if the ex-sports director later joins another club.

Eberl recently revealed in an interview with “Welt am Sonntag” that in 2019, during his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he was head of sport between 2008 and January of this year, the name Schröders also came up. “I spoke out against it at the time. In hindsight, that was a mistake because we could have spread the tasks over two more shoulders,” said Eberl. Meanwhile, he emphasized: “In the future, I will very consciously have a team around me in which the tasks are distributed, so that you can consciously – to come back to an important finding – take a step back.”
