Spaniard injured in the shoulder
“We have to assume that we will definitely be missing Dani for a few weeks again,” said Leipzig coach Marco Rose sadly despite the 6-0 win against 1. FC Köln. The reason for this was Dani Olmo, who was slowly being reintegrated into the RB game after a six-week break and left the field injured after a few minutes on Saturday evening.
“Dani’s injury clouds our strong performance today, which is why I’m not that euphoric. (…) The examinations will show what exactly is broken in the shoulder area. “It’s just extremely painful for all of us that Dani will be out again,” said Rose (quoted via RB homepage). The 25-year-old Spaniard was the only one of Leipzig’s four most valuable players that the “Red Bulls” were able to keep last summer: Josko Gvardiol (Man City), Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) and Christopher Nkunku (Chelsea) for a total of 220 million Euros to the Premier League. This led to a revenue record for a Bundesliga club.

The attacking midfielder got off to an outstanding start to the season, scoring a hat-trick against FC Bayern in the DFL Supercup, and was involved in a goal on each of the first three Bundesliga matchdays before a knee injury sidelined him. “He is so important to us, as a player and as a person. “It would have been fantastic to have him for the next important few weeks,” said Rose.
Olmo has missed 40 RB games due to injury since the 2021/22 season, and he extended his contract in June until 2027 (see Olmo’s injury history). According to Rose, RB now has to “expect a long downtime” with Olmo, who came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute and left the pitch again in the 70th minute. In the Bundesliga’s internal comparison of the most valuable attacking midfielders, the Spaniard takes third place behind Florian Wirtz (Bayer) and ahead of Julian Brandt (BVB). The Saxons also have new signing Christoph Baumgartner, Liverpool loanee Fábio Carvalho and veteran Emil Forsberg available in Olmo’s position.
