Winning the DFB Cup last season made the Bundesliga club RB Leipzig hungry for more big successes.
“I had a lot of one-on-one talks with the players during the preparations, so I could already hear that they wanted more,” said coach Domenico Tedesco in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.
His players “felt what it means to win titles – how it feels to walk off the pitch with a gold medal on your chest,” added Tedesco. What triggered this will “ultimately only be seen in the medium term”.
At the same time, Tedesco made it clear that titles also play a major role in signing players: “When you see trophies – it has a power, it also shines across borders. Seen from that perspective, the Europa League victory would also be very nice for us been.”
In the fight for the German championship, Tedesco sees Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund well ahead of his club. “Dortmund followed up brutally. BVB lost Erling Haaland, but still improved a lot,” he said, “the situation is similar at Bayern.” The basis of both teams was already “not so bad last season. And in the end they were both in front of Leipzig.”
