Regardless of the artificial turf discussion, RB Leipzig wants to get off to the best possible start in the Champions League.
“We can now put the issue of grass behind us,” demanded coach Marco Rose at the press conference before the start at the Swiss champions Young Boys Bern on Tuesday (6:45 p.m./DAZN) and explained: “We are here to win a Champions League. We want to play the first game in the group stage – and we want to make that successful.”
In order to get to know the unfamiliar surface of the Wankdorf stadium better, the Saxons completed their final training in sneakers.
Rose also knows: “We have a difficult opponent in front of us, a team that is strong at home. It is a very physical team. But we will try to play our own game.”
RB will also face defending champions Manchester City and Red Star Belgrade in Group G. “We all want to spend the winter in the Champions League – and for that we need points,” said Kevin Kampl, who will lead the team onto the pitch in Bern as captain.
Kampl announced that the Saxons will try to get as many points as possible, especially against the supposed underdogs from Serbia and Switzerland.
