Leipzig (dpa) – RB Leipzig coach Domenico Tedesco demands a clear reaction from his professionals in the last Bundesliga home game of the season against FC Augsburg after the end of the Europa League semifinals.
“But now we have to get over it as soon as possible and get back on our feet. We still have three very important games left in which we can still achieve a lot. We need a ‘now more than ever’ mentality,” said Tedesco after the 3-1 defeat at Glasgow Rangers and the wasted first chance at an international title. Therefore, his team is required on May 9th (7:30 p.m. / DAZN).
Augsburg is a very unpleasant opponent
After the home defeat against 1. FC Union Berlin (1: 2) and the away defeat in Mönchengladbach (1: 3), RB also threatens to lose the targeted premier class qualification. “Unfortunately, we no longer have the Champions League qualification in our own hands. But what I can promise is that we will do everything we can to do our homework,” stressed Tedesco, adding: “We don’t just know from the first leg that Augsburg is a very unpleasant opponent and what virtues it takes to stand up to them.”
The statistics speak for Leipzig. RB has not lost to Augsburg in ten competitive games. The Swabians won their last competitive game in Leipzig in the 2013 DFB Cup in the first round with a 2-0 win under coach Markus Weinzierl. This year’s cup finalist RB was still in the third division at the time.
Weinzierl is now back as a trainer for the Swabians, who want to complete their relegation with a point. “We’ve already scored against good teams like Leipzig. We believe we can score,” said the FC coach, emphasizing: “The role of outsider suits us.” If FC Bayern Munich wins against VfB Stuttgart on Sunday, FCA can plan for its twelfth Bundesliga season regardless of its own result.
