Rayo Vallecano resigns from preliminary contract with Boca Juniors’ Almendra

Former Argentinian top talent Agustín Almendra will not join Rayo Vallecano in the summer on a free transfer from CA Boca Juniors. How “mark“, “Relevo” and Cesar Luis Merlo unanimously report that the seventh in LaLiga has resigned from a four-year contract that had actually already been signed with the 23-year-old midfielder. Almendra’s working paper at his youth club ends in the summer.

The reason for this should be Rayo’s doubts about Almendra’s state of health. The former youth international, who peaked at €15m at the age of 19 but has since fallen successively to €2m, has had an extremely difficult time since the outbreak of the pandemic.

As a result of a corona-related quarantine in the summer of 2020, Almendra, who was considered the greatest talent at the Boca Academy at the time, struggled with depression and did not take part in the training of the “Xeneizes” for several months, and is said to have even thought about ending his career prematurely. In 2021 he was actually back on the field regularly, but he also had recurring ankle problems. In the spring of 2022 there was also a dispute between Almendra and the then Boca coach Sebastián Battaglia – and another ankle injury the following summer. Almendra was last used in a competitive game in February 2022.

In addition to Rayo, the traditional Brazilian club EC Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte had also tried to get the right foot. Almendra had canceled the Ronaldo club for his dream of Europe – whether he is leaving Boca for the neighboring country or for another European team is an open question.
