Euro Tour 6Raymond van Barneveld has had a very short Euro Tour in his own country. He faced an extremely difficult draw with Dimitri Van Den Bergh and eventually also lost 6-3.
The first four legs went with the darts, but after a break from Van Den Bergh, Van Barneveld’s defense was broken. The next two legs also went to the Belgian. By keeping his own leg once more, Van Barneveld got another 3 on the scoreboard, but Van Den Bergh only needed two match darts to secure the next round.
In the last game of the evening, Jermaine Wattimena also came into action. He took on Ross Smith, but that match ended in a true fiasco for the Dutchman. Wattimena didn’t take a leg against Smith and got a 6-0 whitewash around his ears.
Success for Van Peer
Berry van Peer is in the second round of the Dutch Darts Championship. The 26-year-old Dutchman won 6-2 against the Scot Alan Soutar. In the second round he will meet Premier League participant Jonny Clayton.
Van Peer threw an average of 96.17 while Soutar only just over 80. The Dutch darts player qualified for the tournament in Leeuwarden yesterday by grabbing one of the two tickets at the so-called ‘Host Nation Qualifier’.
Through the same qualifying tournament, Martijn Dragt also qualified for the tournament that is part of the Euro Tour. The number 128 in the world recently impressed by knocking out Rob Cross in another Euro Tour tournament, but today Dragt lost 6-3 against Martin Lukeman. Gian van Veen is also out of the tournament. He lost 6-5 to Gabriel Clemens.
Return Gary Anderson falls into the water
Gary Anderson returned to the Euro Tour for the first time in seven years. The two-time world champion has dropped to 22nd on the PDC Order of Merit and must therefore play more tournaments to qualify for TV tournaments. He might face Michael van Gerwen in the third round, but Anderson went down 6-2 against Roman Benecky.
The same Van Gerwen does not have to take action in the first round, as do Dirk van Duijvenbode and Danny Noppert. The last two already know their opponent on Saturday. Aubergenius throws to Dylan Slevin and The Freeze plays against Madars Razma. Benecky or Martin Schindler will play against Van Gerwen in the third round.
PDC EuroTour
The Dutch Darts Championship in Leeuwarden is part of the Euro Tour. The PDC circus travels through the European mainland for 13 weeks to complete tournaments. After the 13th tournament, the top 32 in the Euro Tour ranking qualifies for the European Championship. The prize money won also counts for the ‘regular’ world ranking and the Pro Tour Order of Merit, where tickets for TV tournaments can be won. The winner of each Euro Tour tournament will take home £30,000 (more than €34,000).
