Today’s men inside, it is to be in a lot of criticism of their supporters: the broadcast in which they pampered Frans Timmermans. It is no secret that he does not want to be in one broadcast with Wierd Duk, but VI also had no other politically educated opinion makers in the show, such as Raymond Mens or Thomas van Groningen.

‘Leaving ears’

Opinion maker Harry Vermeegen suspects that Frans demanded that these conservative opinion makers would fail. “The PR campaign team of PvdA-Groenlinks has of course all set conditions before Timmermans would get there,” says the former sports presenter on his opinion channel.

According to him, VI went completely with that. “They have neatly let their ears hang to all the wishes and everything that had to happen. Yes, then you get this, because of course there was no one with any political knowledge in that studio.”

“None of all!”

It’s too obvious, says Harry. “Because normally you would think that you would like to put Duk or Raymond Mens or Thomas van Groningen or that Victor Vlam at the bar, but none of them! No one seen! No, who put them there? A referee!”

Bas Nijhuis was the only Bargast in the broadcast with Timmermans. “While one of the most important politicians is in the Netherlands. It is in the studio. This had everything to become a historical broadcast at the start of this election campaign, but no. No, no, no.”

‘Too good luck’

Why does VI disappoint their supporters so much? “Too much success. They are a bit too happy with themselves. It is easy to make it. It doesn’t matter to them anymore. We can afford everything, it doesn’t matter what we do, we still have good viewing figures and we are nominated for the Televizier ring.”

He continues: “And the financial belly are also reasonably filled and round. Then you are no longer hungry to make a difference. Not the hunger to make a historical broadcast. (…) Yes, totally no longer the sharpness. Just a weak bite it was. What a huge disappointment.”
