Raymond Briggs, the creator of the Snowman animation, has died

Briggs was 88 years old when he died.

English writer, illustrator and comic artist Raymond Briggs has died at the age of 88, reports The Guardian.

News of the death was confirmed to The Guardian by Briggs’ publisher Penguin Random House.

Briggs’ greatest and most captivating work was a sensitive story Snowman. In the animation created in 1982, a snowy figure comes to life and takes a young boy on an adventure flying around the city. The program is usually shown in Finland on Christmas Eve on the Yle channels.

– We remember him for his stories full of love. I know from the letters he received, how his books and animations touched people’s hearts tremendously. He retained his curiosity and wonder to the last, Briggs’ book agent Hilary Delamere comment.

Briggs was born in 1934. He started high school in Wimbledon, but dropped out to go to art school. Briggs originally wanted to make cartoons, but changed his mind as school progressed.
