Shortly before rescuers brought up the stretcher on which the child was lying, Rayan’s parents were taken to the tunnel to be there when their son was freed. They then got into the ambulance that took them to a helicopter that was waiting a little further to take them to a hospital.
“If he survives this, it will be a miracle anyway,” rescuers said Friday evening.
Rayan (5) fell into the well on Tuesday afternoon when his father was repairing it. With a diameter of 45 centimeters, the well was much too narrow for rescuers to be able to save it quickly. Since then, a massive rescue operation has been launched. A new trench was dug to the well with cranes in recent days, but only now was the boy rescued amid massive media attention.
