RAvenna, 20 needle. (askanews) – Those who go on vacation in Ravenna for the sea hardly visit the museum where works by Klimt, Banksy and Cattelan are kept. Those who come for Byzantine mosaics or see the tomb of the high poet, rarely discovers naturalistic excursions to observe flamingos and herons. The second city of Italy by extension, after Rome, has a problem: too much wealth, too fragmented. The solution? Footprints, 5 million euros from Europe to invent the tourism of the future.
“Ravenna is a city that has always lived in Tourism – explains the commissioner for culture, Fabio Sbaraglia – and with tourism he has always worked. We believe that we live times when tourism would also need to meet innovation and to measure themselves with the challenges of our time which are those of environmental sustainability. We have tried to make an important investment imagining a new way of living the city even by tourists, sharing responsibilities, objectives and trying. A visit experience that contemplates a commitment to daily sustainability “.
The project has already started and will come alive in the next three years. “Welcome Hub” throughout the territory, from the city of art to the sea, digital urban corridors that connect attractions by encouraging sustainable mobility.
“The ambitious challenge – Sbaraglia recalls – is to transform the tourist and visitor into a temporary citizen of the city and therefore maintain all that responsibility in the area that has to do with waste management, but also aware choices of how to move from one place to another. We would like to encourage it through a qualified project of involvement, structuring captivating methods to keep this collaboration and this responsibility high”.
A strategy to combat Overurrism, also involving local operators in a digital monitoring system.
“One of the challenges of our time – concludes the commissioner – is to build increasingly responsible tourist processes, which contrast the culture of tourism ‘mortalities and runs’. Trying to transform the visiting experience into a life experience into a territory means triggering virtuous methods of active participation in the life of a territory, not limiting yourself to a extractive culture, but living a territory, deepening it and finding a direct relationship between the environment and what we seek”.
