Ravage in Handzame: truck driver in mortal danger

Two homes and a few parked vehicles were also seriously damaged. This is confirmed by the Westhoek Fire Brigade.

Lost control

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. on Green Street. The fire brigade received a call for a collapse risk. The driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle and went off the road. The truck drove through three front yards and came to a stop in an old shed. It sustained a lot of damage.

The driver was trapped and had to be freed by firefighters. He has been taken to hospital in critical condition. The man may have become unwell during his ride. No one else was injured, the fire service said.

Stability research

The street is locally closed to traffic. When the vehicles are towed, the fire service will check the stability of the buildings.
