“Rat race with Premier League”? Bayern boss reacts

For Bayern Munich’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, the planned investor entry does not mean that the gap to the English Premier League can be significantly reduced.

“I think the Premier League is so far away – no, we have to concentrate on ourselves and continue to develop the things that we believe are right,” said Dreesen: “That’s the first thing with the Premier League “To do nothing at all. That would also be presumptuous to believe.”

The fan alliance “Our Curve” had previously criticized the decision to invest with the argument, among other things: “The uniqueness of German football is being thrown overboard in a hopeless rat race with the Premier League.”

At the general meeting of the German Football League on Monday, the DFL received a mandate from the professional clubs to begin concrete negotiations with a strategic marketing partner.

A financial investor should pay up to one billion euros for a percentage share of the TV revenue. The contract should have a maximum term of 20 years.

The Premier League recently caused a stir with the announcement of a new TV contract with a record sum. According to the league, the equivalent of around 1.95 billion euros per season will flow into the allocation of media rights in the 2025/2026 up to and including 2028/2029 seasons. The DFL last concluded a TV contract in 2021 that guaranteed it 1.1 billion euros per year.
