From September, a special work by Vincent van Gogh can be seen in the Drents Museum in Assen. It concerns the watercolor ‘Landscape with a farm’, from 1883. According to the Drents Museum, this work has rarely been shown.
The work has been in a Canadian family collection for over 40 years. “For the relatively unknown watercolor Landscape with a Farm, Vincent van Gogh used a phenomenal color palette. The work is a harbinger of the later color splendor for which Van Gogh is known. As far as is known, the watercolor has never been shown in a museum before,” writes the museum.
The Drents Museum will open a Van Gogh exhibition in September, featuring works he made during his stay in Drenthe. In recent years, the museum has researched works he made in Drenthe, this year 140 years ago.
The exhibition ‘Traveling with Vincent – Van Gogh in Drenthe’ features sixteen Drenthe Van Goghs from museums and private collections from all over the world. His time in Drenthe is seen as important for his development as an artist.
