rare low score on NPO 1

It will be a bit of a swallow for Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. The presenter himself thinks he is a huge star, but his viewing figures are even worse than a show by Kim-Lian van der Meij.

Matthijs van Nieuwkerk can only confirm that De Wereld Draait Door was the pinnacle of his TV career and that he will never get over it, at least in numbers. For the past four weeks he was on the channel with Summer School, which used to be called DWDD Summer School. The consequence? Seriously disappointing viewing figures.

Matthijs through the ice

Summer school is Matthijs’ program in which celebrities give guest lectures about their own field. After the episodes with Francis van Broekhuizen (558 thousand viewers), Marcel Levi (532 thousand) and Hans Klok (396 thousand), it was time for bestselling author Cynthia McLeod yesterday. 267 thousand people (7 percent) watched it.

This would be a nice score for the edges of the night on NPO 2, but prime time on NPO 1 is an outright ratings disaster. The previous programme, The Great British Bake Off, attracted 761 thousand viewers (18 percent). Op1 immediately reached 620 thousand viewers (21 percent). In other words: the viewer literally zaps around Matthijs en masse.

Rare Low

Tina Nijkamp, the former SBS 6 boss who has rapidly developed into the viewing figure authority of the Low Countries, calls it ‘very little’ for NPO 1. “It does not happen often that a program on NPO 1 falls under the 300 thousand viewers scores. Perhaps it is also more of an NPO 2 program.”

Matthijs did not even attract enough viewers for a place in the top 25 viewership, while the program for him, the British Heel Holland Bakt, is in sixth place.

Carlo Boszhard

Carlo Boszhard started carefully with the new season of I Can See Your Voice on RTL 4. A meager 679 thousand people (16 percent) watched it. What does Tina think about that? Nothing. It is well known what Carlo thinks of Tina: he recently wrote a laudatory column about the television connoisseur.

The other most viewed prime-time titles yesterday were Jinek with 657 thousand viewers (19 percent) on RTL 4, Today Inside with 642 thousand viewers (16 percent) on SBS 6 and Nieuwsuur with 513 thousand viewers (12 percent) on NPO 2.
