The Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, has returned to support this Wednesday the action of the machinist of the train which was caught up in the fire in Bejís (Castellón) and has rejected criticism from the railway unions for the absence of an inspector on board. The Minister of Transport has alluded to the existing regulations since 2001 that specify the personnel that You must go on board on routes like the one covered by the Bejís train.
“Let’s not confuse arguments because we are facing something that is very serious; since 2001 it has been operating this way, there is a regulation that specifies the personnel, we have never had any incident and drivers are people with knowledge and ability to be able to deal with situations like this”, explained Sánchez in an interview in Cuatro collected by Europa Press.
The head of Transport has recognized that there was “a panic scenario” on the train and has admitted that “perhaps there was an impersonation of authority that motivates to improve the protocols”. “These are issues to see to avoid incidents like this”added the minister.
