honesty and emancipation
Little Simz has already proven himself not only on the microphone and in front of the camera, but also behind the camera. She took over directing the video for her single “Woman” (2021), a track that also features R&B darling Cleo Sol, capturing the song’s woman-empowering tone in beautiful, proud imagery.
The high density of narration in her songs inspired by personal experiences provided the material for one at the end of 2021 short film, in which the Briton was able to bring in her acting talent. The video, made in collaboration with file hosting service WeTransfer, is based on her single “I Love You, I Hate You,” in which she deals with her difficult relationship with her father. Poet Caroline Adeyemi adapted the story behind the song into a script in which lead actress Sage, played by Little Simz herself, experiences writer’s block as a writer from unresolved trauma. In the meditative settings, we see how suppressing her past affects Sage’s creativity and personal relationships in her present.
Moving pictures
