Rapper Lil Kleine is released, can await trial in freedom

Jorik Scholten, better known by his stage name Lil Kleine, is released again. The council chamber of the court in Amsterdam decided on Monday that the pre-trial detention of the rapper suspected of serious assault will be suspended† He will be released under conditions on Tuesday pending the substantive hearing of his lawsuit.

Lil Kleine was arrested a month ago on suspicion of assault, after images of the rapper were shared on social media showing that he assaulted someone. The video shows that he pulls the woman in question – presumably his fiancée Jamie Vaes – by her hair from a car and closes the door on her.

After his arrest, the rapper was detained for three days, after which the examining magistrate suspended his pre-trial detention. Later, the court ruled that Lil Kleine would still be detained for two weeks; that period of fourteen days is now coming to an end.

Several parties severed their ties with Lil Kleine after the arrest. For example, record company Sony Music canceled the contract with the rapper, his former record company Top Notch decided to stop promoting his music and radio station FunX refused to play Lil Kleines songs. Spotify also removed its music from the streaming service’s editorial playlists.
