Borussia Dortmund is still looking for answers to the clear 5-2 defeat by Bayer Leverkusen. Many BVB supporters acknowledged the poor performance in the Bundesliga with whistles. Left-back Raphael Guerreiro can understand the reaction of his own fans.
After all, 10,000 spectators were allowed to take a seat in the Dortmund stadium again on the last Bundesliga matchday. But instead of a football festival, BVB fans saw a real debacle. The black and yellow lost 5-2 to Bayer Leverkusen and once again seemed overwhelmed, especially on the defensive.
“It reminded me a bit of the 1:5 against Stuttgart. The extent of the defeat was fully deserved. We were really bad that day,” said Raphael Guerreiro in the “sports1“-Interview back to the defeat: “Our game with the ball was bad, there was almost none, we didn’t have the right structure, weren’t mobile enough and defended weakly.”
The Portuguese could understand the whistles of his own fans. “As Borussia Dortmund we conceded five goals at home. Unfortunately, we deserved that on the day,” said Guerreiro.
The full-back does not see a head problem at BVB. “Mentally we’re already up to par. We need to communicate more and play better together,” explained Guerreiro.
Due to the recent defeat, Dortmund is already nine points behind FC Bayern. However, Guerreiro does not want to completely forget about the championship. “Personally, I never lose faith, but it’s no use talking, so we don’t get a single point,” said the 28-year-old.
Guerreiro can imagine an extension at BVB
Guerreiro is now one of the most experienced players at BVB. The left-back’s contract runs until 2023. When asked if he would extend BVB, Guerreiro revealed: “The people in charge and I will talk to each other in due course. That has not happened so far. There have only been loose talks, but nothing concrete yet. I would definitely be ready because I feel very comfortable here.”
In addition, the 2016 European champion added: “I love this club very much, everyone knows that. But we have to come to an agreement in the end. The new contract will of course be important for me, and I won’t sign that many anymore. So everything has to fit .”
