Rammstein in Prague: The first stage of their European tour is taking shape

What takes a long time will finally be good: Actually, the first concerts of the Rammstein European tour should take place in spring 2020. But the corona pandemic made it impossible to hold events of this dimension – two postponements were the result. But now things are supposed to start on May 15 in Prague: Twelve days before the band around Till Lindemann’s first stop, the stage at the Prague-Letňany airfield is almost completely set up. As can be seen from various posts on social media, the Czech capital is already working on the sound.

The crème de la crème of rock gave a concert at Prague Airport

The venue has an approximate capacity of 80,000 people and has hosted some of rock’s greatest musicians in recent years. In 2018 alone, AC/DC, the Rolling Stones and Ozzy Osbourne performed outdoors; a year later, Metallica and Muse were guests. In 2022, almost exactly one month after Rammstein, Guns n’ Roses will be giving a concert on June 18 at the airport in the “Golden City”.

“A Kind of Exorcism”

In November 2021, guitarist Richard Kruspe confirmed that the next Rammstein record should be released before the start of the next tour – he was right: On Friday (April 29), the group’s eighth studio album ZEIT was released. ME columnist and author Julia Friese has taken the eleven new pieces in the current issue of MUSIKEXPRESS as an opportunity for an extensive essay. She said: “ZEIT, the new Rammstein album, is a record like a concert, and a Rammstein concert is a kind of exorcism. Is a performance of German rudeness. In uniform and illuminated by anti-aircraft searchlights, the rudeness is so exaggerated, often even to the point of being ridiculous, that one can march it out of one’s body. The grotesque of this country.”
