Diploma singer Raita Karpon the death notice was published on Sunday in Helsingin Sanomat. He died on October 11 of a rapidly progressing illness. Karpo was 82 years old when he died.

According to the death notice, Karpo will be blessed in the grave at the beginning of November in the big chapel of Helsinki’s Hietaniemi crematorium.
Raita Karpo was especially known as an interpreter of Karelian folk songs. The singer performed at the National Opera, among others, and she made 24 recordings. The soprano managed to perform folk songs abroad as well. In 2008, Karpo received the Pro Carelia medal, which is the highest award of the Karelia Federation.
The singer was previously married to a journalist Hannu Karpon with, and they have two children. The union ended in 1997.
Raita told For Seura magazine in 2021, that he didn’t think he would find a good love relationship after Hannu, but it turned out differently. Unfortunately, the couple’s happiness turned to sadness five years after meeting, when the new partner fell seriously ill. Raita Karpokin experienced health trials during her life when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the spring of 2020.
