The European savings platform Raisin has published a report in which it has ventured to roughly calculate the costs of breeding in Spain.
According to his study, the real cost of raising a child in Spain in 2022 approximates at 300,000 euros from the moment of their birth and until their economic emancipation.
Given that men are emancipated almost two years later than women, in the case of having a child, the expense would amount to 309,381 euros until he turns 30; On the other hand, the cost associated with raising a girl would be 301,154 euros for the same period of time: women tend to leave the family home at 28.8 years, while men do so at 30.7.
The study has been prepared taking into account the expenses in aspects such as health, education, food and celebrations, among others. “Some items, such as weekly pay or education costs, disappear and others are reduced when the child reaches 22 or 23 years, at which time she begins to have an income.”
Food, education, non-essential expenses, and clothing and shoes are the items that require the most money.

On the other hand, looking back reveals that having a child 20 years ago it was cheaper than today. So, keeping him until his emancipation meant an average total outlay of 218,848 euros.
This increase, logically, has to do, in the first place, with the increase in consumer prices, but there are also other reasons: “If we consider the percentage of salary that is dedicated to raising children in the two years studied, the average percentage change is different. In 2002 the cost of having a child was 36.66% of the annual salary, while currently this percentage stands at 37.89%, 3.35% higher,” the study points out.
