The cabaret artist and musician Rainald Grebe would no longer write his well-known “Brandenburg” song today.

The singer told the editorial network Germany (RND) and referred to his serious illness, the autoimmune disease vasculitis.

“It follows from the illness that you have more understanding for others,” said Grebe. “Empathizing with people softens them. I would no longer write “Brandenburg” today,” says the musician.

He used to “set more edges”. The song “Brandenburg” consisted of putting something down. “Now I see Brandenburg more from the perspective of those who live, work and have problems in Brandenburg. It’s harder,” said the singer.

“What should you do when you are 17 or 18 in Brandenburg?”

In any case, he didn’t really know the state at the time the song was written, said the 52-year-old. The song says, among other things: “In Brandenburg, in Brandenburg / is someone full in the avenue again / what should you do with 17, 18 in Brandenburg?”

Grebe has known since 2014 that he suffers from the serious illness that often leads to strokes. On July 29, the musician gives a concert in the Berlin Waldbühne.
