Rain does not prevent residents of Groningen from free dinner at Vismarkt

A downpour around six o’clock Monday evening could not spoil the fun at the city dinner of student association NSG on the Vismarkt in Groningen. With a sign in their hand, participants ran to trees, lean-tos and alleys.

Some visitors decided to take shelter under the tables in the hope that they could stay dry. According to Ineke, one of the 900 participants, the Dutch are ‘really crazy’. “Weather or no weather, we’ll just come and eat.”

The NSG students organized the dinner for the third time. Everyone from the city was welcome to have a bite to eat for free and to get in touch with other people. Among the visitors also a group of young asylum seekers. Unlike them, Gea, Mieke and Ineke (left to right on the photo) were well prepared and had brought an umbrella.
