Rain chases F1 visitors into public transport: huge crowds at Haarlem station

It is very busy on the track towards Zandvoort today. More fans are expected at the Dutch Grand Prix today than yesterday. Moreover, the rainy weather means that people choose the train rather than the bicycle.

Thousands of visitors have already arrived in the seaside resort. The NS has already brought at least 24,000 visitors to Zandvoort until 10.30 am this morning. The rush to the trains causes long queues outside Haarlem station, where there are special walking routes for racing fans. The waiting time is now up to 25 minutes.

In those rows, the ponchos are brought out with great regularity, when there is another shower. According to weatherman Jan Visser, it will be rainy and cool all weekend, although there are also dry periods.

Bicycle tunnel under water

The rain also hinders the people who do go to the circuit by bike. The bicycle tunnel on the Visserspad in Zandvoort is under water. The fire service is trying to pump out the water as quickly as possible. The tunnel is part of the cycling route towards Circuit Zandvoort, where today’s program includes the third free practice and qualifying for Formula 1.
