Wheelchair tennis player Sam Schröder’s singles final at Roland Garros was canceled on Saturday due to rainfall.
De Gelener’s match against compatriot Niels Vink was interrupted during a tiebreak in the second set.
compatriot
At the start of the final on the clay in Paris, Schröder and Vink struggled to keep their own games. After three games, Vink was the first to keep his game and take a 3-1 lead in the first set. Shortly afterwards, Vink Schröder broke again and took a 4-1 lead. In the sixth game, which lasted more than eight minutes, Schröder immediately managed to break back. After that, the Limburger kept his own game and broke his compatriot again. As a result, the score was tied again: 4-4.
Service
De Gelener was then able to take the lead for the first time on his own service, but that did not work. Vink broke the Limburger again and won the set on his own service: 6-4.
second set
In the second set, Schröder immediately took matters into his own hands and led 0-2. Vink then won three games in a row to take the lead again: 3-2. After that, Schröder and Vink, who play together in doubles, kept each other in balance for a long time until the score was 5-5. Then Vink managed to break the Gelener and come within one game of the win. A crucial game followed, which was ultimately decided in favor of Schröder after 22 points.
tiebreak
As a result, a tiebreak had to decide the set win. Schröder started the tiebreak strong as the first drops fell on the clay in Paris and led 2-0 when the referee decided to stop the game.
Due to the prolonged rainfall, the game could not be finished on Saturday. As a result, Schröder and Vink will continue their final on Sunday morning at 11:00 AM.
