Philipp Raimund and Felix Hoffmann gave the German ski jumpers two top results in Wisła. For Andreas Wellinger, however, things are not going well at all.
Philipp Raimund landed on the World Cup podium for the third time in his career and is increasingly becoming Germany’s ski jumping hope in the Olympic winter. The 25-year-old came second in Wisła, Poland, with distances of 129 and 130.5 meters. The Slovenian Domen Prevc secured the victory, jumping 136 and 130 meters.
In the end, Raimund was only 6.8 points short of his first World Cup victory. “I’m very happy with second place. I was hoping that he would win today because he showed a great jump in the second round. But Domen also flew a long way, we have to accept that,” said national coach Stefan Horngacher on ZDF and predicted: “At some point he will definitely win. It’s just a matter of time.”
Felix Hoffmann also delivered a good competition. The 28-year-old landed in fifth place with 125.5 and 126.5 meters. “He also did a great job,” praised Horngacher. Pius Paschke also scored World Cup points in 17th place.
Andreas Wellinger, on the other hand, is far from the top and far from meeting his own standards. The two-time world champion and Olympic champion missed the final with a jump of 118 meters in 39th place.
“It’s really a bit of tinkering. I know where I want to go, but the jumps only work selectively. At the moment I’m annoyed, but in my career I’ve experienced it several times that things don’t go the way you want them to. Now the goal is to work my way up,” said the 30-year-old. Karl Geiger had already experienced a debacle in qualifying the day before.
