The Lokeren police were called to Zoomstraat around midnight on Friday. A gang of about 20 people had descended with a few cars to the garage of two brothers, where they threatened the owners. One of them came up his driveway with an iron bar in hand and lunged at one of the men gathered for his cause.

gunshots

The iron bar had a sharp edge, and one of those present had known it. His hand was cut off, after which he immediately retired to one of the cars. He left a trail of blood in the driveway leading to the car. One of the other drivers took out a gun and fired several times. He didn’t hit anyone, after which the gang fled. The man whose hand was cut off rushed, accompanied by some friends, to the emergency department of the hospital in Lokeren. Witnesses said they were completely covered in blood. In the AZ Lokeren it was decided that the man had to be immediately transferred to the UZ in Ghent, where he would be operated on immediately.

The Lokeren police were able to arrest four people in the meantime. Let the public prosecutor know. “It concerns the two brothers, the man with the severed hand and a fourth person. They are currently being interrogated.” It is currently unclear what prompted the confrontation between the brothers and the gang. An investigating judge was appointed by the prosecutor’s office.

Operation successful

In the meantime, it became known that the operation of the man whose hand was cut off was successfully completed. His hand could be reattached. It remains to be seen whether he will still be able to use his hand.
