The ailing tournament record champion Rafael Nadal wants to inform on Thursday about his participation in the French Open.
The 36-year-old Spaniard announced a press conference in his academy in Mallorca for the afternoon (4 p.m.) – “Marca” already reported on Wednesday evening that the 14-time tournament winner will not compete in Paris (from May 28th).
Nadal has been suffering from problems with the injured hip flexor for months, and the Grand Slam record champion has not played since the Australian Open.
He recently canceled one after the other for the start of the clay court season in Monte Carlo, in Barcelona, as well as for Madrid and Rome.
Although he had noticed “an improvement”, Nadal announced at the beginning of May. But the healing process needs more time, he has no choice but to “accept and keep working”.
Last year Nadal got fit in time and fought his way to winning the title despite foot problems.
With 22 wins, the clay court king is at the top of the all-time list of Grand Slam champions together with the Serbian Novak Djokovic.
