Winner of the most men’s grand slams of all time Rafael Nadal was injured in a peculiar way in the second round match of the US Open Fabio Fognini against. The Spaniard’s nose began to bleed in the middle of the match.
Nadal reached for the ball in the fourth set. He hit it, but the club bounced off the court and onto the nose. Nadal immediately started holding his nose as he walked towards the side of the court.
The match was stopped for a while while the man was patched up for a few minutes. A patch was put on Nadal’s nose and the game resumed.
The third in the world ranking showed his guts and eventually progressed from the match to the next round with a 3–1 set win (2–6, 6–4, 6–2, 6–1). Nadal lost the first set, but after that the Italian could no longer answer the shots.
Nadal said he was a little dizzy after the blow. This would be the first time in his career that something similar had happened in tennis.
– It has happened with a golf club, but not with a tennis club, Nadal said in an interview after the game.
