Radiohead: Thom Yorke fires at British government after Liz Truss resigns

Radiohead singer Thom Yorke has called for a change of government following the resignation of British Prime Minister Liz Truss. “Overthrow this British government damn it right now they don’t speak for us,” Yorke wrote on Twitter. “They have no authority, no mandate, no clue.”

“Enough of this shit. Shame on you,” Yorke also wrote, calling the Conservative Tory government “cats in a bag tearing each other apart while the country suffers extreme hardship.” Finally, he shouted using the hashtag “#GeneralElection2022” to new elections.

With the Twitter post, Yorke also quoted the lyrics to Radiohead’s song “No Surprises” from the classic album OK COMPUTER (1997), which read: “Bring down the government/They don’t, they don’t speak for us.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s successor resigned on Thursday 20 October after just 45 days in office. It failed primarily because of its financial policy. Planned tax cuts for the rich in the middle of the energy crisis made Truss unpopular with the population and parts of her own party.

Yorke released the album A LIGHT FOR ATTRACTING ATTENTION with his new supergroup The Smile in 2022. Other members include Yorke, Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner.
