Dave Minneboo, Talpa’s radio chief, would not even consider hiring Gordon for the Radio 10 morning show. “We would be crazy to do that!”
Patrick Kicken, our country’s most important radio columnist, states that there is a persistent rumor that Gordon is in the running to present Radio 10’s morning show. It seems very unbelievable, because the image of the fallen entertainer is completely in ruins and media brands generally prefer not to be associated with that.
“We’re not crazy!”
What’s right about it? Jordi Versteegden, the star reporter for De Telegraaf, has sorted it out. “It was rumored that he would take over the morning show there from the departing Gerard Ekdom, who is coming to Radio Veronica. So I called to check, very journalistic,” he says in the podcast Strictly Private.
And? “Well, John de Mol’s left hand when it comes to radio, Dave Minneboo, who says: ‘We would be crazy to bring in Gordon, because then we know right away that we have a lot of trouble here.’”
Spicy statement
Co-host Jan Uriot, star journalist of Privé, is shocked by this candor. “That’s quite a bold statement then.”
Jordi: “Well, I’m paraphrasing that a bit, but he says: ‘Yes, why would we do that at this moment? There is so much commotion around that man and he left here with a noise.’ Because at one point he ridiculed John de Mol in a video on our site, Telegraaf.nl.”
The flag out
Gordon said very non-tactical things about the man who transferred millions to him: John de Mol. “Gordon said: ‘I’m going to fly the flag when it’s my last day’, so yes, I don’t think John de Mol is looking forward to receiving Gordon at Radio 10 at all.”
It would suit him financially, Jordi thinks. “He has of course just returned from Elton John’s Oscar party and you cannot get there without paying around 66 thousand euros, I understand.”
Blown up
Gordon has also really blown up that party, according to Jan. “René Mioch also simply stated: if you have some money, you automatically get an invitation to that party, so it wasn’t that special. Look, Gordon made it seem as if he had indeed been exclusively invited by Elton John.”
Jordi: “As if they knew each other or something.”
Jan: “Yes, but that turns out not to be the case at all.”
Back of head
What does Gordon himself say about the radio rumor? “Um, I read something like that. Well, I don’t know, but then John de Mol must have fallen on the back of his head. I didn’t experience any of that,” he says Radio 538.
Gordon would say yes to it. “I would really like it. Which would be ideal if I were to do a morning show like that, to do it from Dubai, because it’s three hours later there!”
