Milan, the leader of the Serie A, beat Cagliari 1-0 on the island of Sardinia. French keeper Maignan and English defender Tomori heard racist slogans from the stands behind the goal afterwards. Maignan reacted furiously and put his hand behind his ear. The Cagliari players were not pleased with that. It led to some clashes on the field between players from both clubs.
This round in the Serie A is all about the fight against racism. “We still have a long way to go and must fight together to end racism,” Milan wrote on Twitter after the Cagliari win.
Trainer Stefano Pioli heard from Maignan and Tomori that they had been treated racist. “It’s always sad when something like this happens, nobody deserves something like this,” said the Italian.
