Racism allegations after police operation at Kotti

By Axel Lier

A police operation at Kottbusser Tor (Kreuzberg) escalated on Saturday night. Four people were arrested and six officers injured. Now the accused are making serious allegations against the police, speaking of “racial profiling”.

According to the police, a suspicious man (33) should be checked around 4 a.m. He was traveling with another man (32) and two women (22.22). The situation escalated at the “Kottbusser Tor” underground station. “The suspect resisted the inspection,” said a police spokesman. He is therefore being investigated for resistance and physical assault.

A short time later, several bystanders had expressed their solidarity with the accused. The 32-year-old also physically interfered in the arrest, so he was being investigated for attempting to free a prisoner. One of the two women is said to have tried to prevent the arrest.

“A total of four people were taken to the detention center and a blood sample was taken from the 32-year-old,” the police spokesman continued. Six police officers from the focus and presence unit (BPE) and civilian investigators from the “K44” in the City Directorate were injured. They did not have to resign from service.

Meanwhile, private calls for witnesses are shared on Twitter and Instagram, in which the authors ask for videos and photos of witnesses. The officials are accused of, among other things, “racial profiling” and insults.

On Twitter it says: “After visiting a club, three friends – a black man F., a black woman N., a white woman C. – want to take the subway home. The police suddenly appear at Kotti and pull Z. off the track without being spoken to or warned.”

He was “fixed to the ground by 5-6 people”, “N. observes fist punches in his face. N. and C. are also pushed to the ground, N. reports that a police officer called her ‘bitch’ and she was choked.”

It goes on to say: “Without reason and without resistance, N. and C. are handcuffed, a police officer admits to the insult at the scene, laughing and within earshot of others. Despite repeated requests, his service card is only handed over to you in the cell, without the possibility of checking it.”

At around 8 a.m., the accused were released from the detention center. “The police never explain their aggressive and humiliating actions,” the tweet said.

According to the police spokesman, there was a major operation to prevent robbery offenses on Saturday night.
