Racing for Birthday Job: ‘I can’t match Verstappen yet’

The engines were not only roaring in Formula 1 today. The center of Zaandam was also the scene of an exciting race for one day. Fifty teams competed against each other for charity. In exchange for a donation, the Zaandam people could feel like Max Verstappen for a while.

Junior Kamer Zaanstreek (JKZ) often organizes events for charity, but today it was a very special one. Right in the center of Zaandam, the karters fancied themselves over the bumpy stones to collect money. “It was quite tough. You are still bouncing and you can feel that in your head,” says one of the participants.

Verstappen or Zaandammer?

The participants and organization cannot of course miss today’s Formula 1 race in Azerbaijan. That’s why everyone can watch both races at the same time. But what do you focus on, the Zaandammers or Max Verstappen? Although the youngest visitors naturally looked at their parents in the kart, the participants still prefer to see Max shine.

Happy Job

The amateur drivers were allowed to participate in exchange for a donation to Stichting Jarige Job. JKZ initiator Jordy Jas knows that many families in Zaandam cannot afford gifts or parties for their birthday children. “In our region alone, there are already 600 families using the foundation’s birthday packages,” says Jas.

With the amount collected today, they hope to collect half of the money for this. With another benefit event, later this year, they can fund all packages for the Zaan region.
