Rachel Hazes does not care at all that her program Hazes is de Basis scores so badly on SBS 6. Viewing figures? She doesn’t look at that. “I don’t care at all.”
Rachel Hazes has once again got someone crazy to give her airtime. Now she comes out of her smokehouse every Saturday evening for the TV show Hazes is de Basis, in which a whole series of celebrities sing songs by André Hazes. Is there enthusiasm for it? No, there really isn’t a dog looking at it. Last week, the score remained at 332,000 viewers.
‘I do not care’
Really all TV makers are refreshing the KijkOnderzoek website in the morning to find out what their program scored the night before. If they suddenly shout that they don’t care at all, then you already know what time it is: no dog is watching their program. Now Rachel Hazes is doing this well-known trick.
Asked if she looks up the ratings, Rachel says in the Weekend: “No, not at all. I do know that immediately after the first broadcast my Instagram and WhatsApp exploded and it showed that many people were enthusiastic and happy. And I just knew that we made a very nice program, so I didn’t care what it would score at all, no.”
Pride
Rachel is very proud of her ratings flop. “I think we can all be very proud. We have made a five-part series and I can honestly say that we have all made a very nice program.”
“We really put so much love into it, with all the artists, the band and the people behind the scenes. So I’m just really proud.”
‘Choose another subject’
Story boss Guido den Aantrekker, Rachel’s bosom friend, called last year that presenters who claim that low viewing figures do not interest them should choose another profession.
Guido then: “’Presenters’ who are not fed up with low viewing figures should choose a different profession – you are paid generously to attract viewers; TV is not a funded hobby. (…) It is your breeding duty to score high ratings.”
