Rachel Hazes started her new program Hazes is de Basis already bad, but the second episode attracted even fewer viewers yesterday. “It’s really not original at all. A weak whole!”
There are few celebrities who cause as much annoyance among people as Rachel Hazes. It bothers many people how busy she is every day to wring out André Hazes’ legacy to the very last drop. Now she is again pontifically in a music program on SBS 6: Hazes is de Basis. The problem? The viewer doesn’t give a damn.
“Stop this, Rachel!”
Hazes is de Basis, in which well-known artists sing songs by Hazes, started disappointingly last week with 487 thousand viewers (8% market share), but yesterday there were only 332 thousand (5%). With this, Rachel’s program records a viewership decline of more than thirty percent, a considerable loss for SBS 6.
Format creator Kirsten Jan van Nieuwenhuijzen, who started his career as one of the first four creatives for John de Mol, is surprised at all. “I understood that this program was Rachel’s idea and I advise her not to come up with formats anymore,” he sneered in his podcast Content Wars†
Not original
Kirsten Jan does not think the show is original at all. “Apart from the fact that Hazes is of course very eroded by now – you really think: what else do you need with Hazes? – is this format also something that makes you think: how original? Singers who sing a song by Hazes… The only fun thing in it is the anecdotes about Hazes.”
Those anecdotes are only told by the wrong person, he thinks. “By Raggel, which is a shame, so yes… I think it’s a bit of a weak whole and I also don’t think it’s original at all to sing Hazes songs in a bar again.”
At location
Perhaps SBS 6 could have made this program better on location, says Kirsten Jan. “Places that are nice and that would have meant something to Hazes, for example in his old house in Vinkeveen or in the bar in De Pijp, where he was born, instead of sitting in a studio again.”
He thinks it’s a missed opportunity. “It’s a shame, it could have been a bit more original than this. It’s not a terrible program and if you’re a fan of Hazes you really like it, but it’s a big hit at home and too easy actually.”
destroyed
Jelle Maasbach, the presenter of the podcast, is especially annoyed by the role of Rachel. “His widow still earns a lot of money from him. She vents everything that has to do with him, but oh well.”
“It’s also such a shame, because his music is brilliant, but it’s completely ruined by all those programs she tries to get out of it and those sing-along evenings and concerts. I think only Roggel, oh sorry Raggel, is happy with it.”
