‘Reducing livestock cannot be a goal in itself’

UTRECHT – In the nitrogen approach, the cabinet pays far too little attention to the personal suffering and unrest among farmers. That is what Rabobank CEO Wiebe Draijer says in conversation with De Telegraaf. “These plans are experienced as an enormous blow to farmers at the kitchen table,” says Draijer. He thinks that the subject of livestock reduction is too much ‘one-dimensional’ in The Hague. “That cannot be a goal in itself. The goal should be to reduce nitrogen emissions in areas where it is most oppressive.”
