For the past two years we were only allowed to celebrate Easter in a small circle. But now we can join the whole family again for Easter brunch and look for eggs. And so, despite the higher prices in the supermarket, we stocked up.
The shopping carts drive back and forth at Albert Heijn in Kaatsheuvel. Many people come quickly to buy something delicious for Easter. Bert Evers from Dongen proudly shows two bags of Easter eggs. “I was afraid they would run out, but luckily I found them.” Though he admits with a laugh that he probably won’t enjoy it. “I’m going to put them in the fridge. But before I get a chance to eat one, they’re probably gone, that’s how it works.”
Bert is not the only one rushing to the supermarket on Saturday afternoon. A lady who comes out with Easter tompouces in her shopping basket explains: “I think it is busier than usual on Saturdays, everyone still wants to get something delicious. It is also so nice that after two years we are together again.” Let’s all celebrate!”
A lady with a very full cart walks by. “Tomorrow the whole family is coming for dinner,” she explains. “So I bought salmon appetizers and carpaccio, pork tenderloins, lettuce, delicious pudding and ice cream.” The answer to the question why there are no Easter eggs in her cart is simple: “They ran out. But luckily I had already bought them before. So the grandchildren can just come and look for them.”
The shopping cart of Peter Leemans from Loon op Zand is also filled to the brim. “If you are with eight people, you have to stock up. The whole family will be with us tomorrow. I hope we can enjoy Easter breakfast in the garden.” And then eggs are traditionally hidden. “Despite the fact that the children are older, they still like it. So we keep that in, that’s part of it.”
