Drummer and producer Questlove wants to auction part of his considerable vinyl collection – he calls over 200,000 records his own – for a good cause, as “Billboard” first reported. Ahmir Khalib Thompson, Questlove’s real name, would like to donate the profits from the auction to the Future of Food Entrepreneurship Program and the Food Education Fund donate.
The auction will take place via live stream on the “Whatnot” platform. Meanwhile, fans have a chance to win a trip to the A-1 Record Shop in New York City with Questlove. The spectacle is scheduled to take place on April 7th at 9:15 p.m. Central European Time. Questlove will put up for auction rare albums such as HEAR, SENSE, FEEL (1972) by The Awakening, SALT OF THE EARTH (1974) by Soul Searchers and HOT PANTS (1971) by James Brown, among many others.
Questlove is best known as the drummer for seminal hip-hop group The Roots. The album THINGS FALL APART from 1999 is considered a timeless classic. It reached platinum status in the US. Questlove has also worked as a producer on albums by artists such as D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and Jay-Z to name a few.
