After the national title in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, Irene Schouten also won the mass start. With force majeure, the resident of Hoogkarspel was the first to cross the line.
Marijke Groenewoud came second and Esther Kiel from Overveen came third. In the last lap she overtook Merel Conijn and rode to the finish together with her teammate Groenewoud. For Schouten it was her tenth title in the mass start.
“I am very happy that I have three gold medals in this tournament. I just don’t know if I drove super fast,” Schouten said afterwards. It was a very successful National Championship for the North Holland rider with gold medals in the mass start, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters.
