Queen Máxima paid an unannounced visit to Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, on the second day of her working visit to San Francisco. Pelosi lives in San Francisco, if she doesn’t have to be in the American capital Washington for work. She served as a member of Congress on behalf of the California city for decades.
Arms tight, the two women walked into a restaurant near the Golden Gate Bridge, where the Queen had posed moments before. The conversation between the Queen and the politician is mainly about the economic working visit that Máxima is currently making to the United States. It is unclear whether Pelosi’s recent visit to Taiwan is still being discussed.
Pelosi’s trip sparked anger in China, the country that considers Taiwan a renegade province. Minister Liesje Schreinemacher also joined the conversation between Máxima and Pelosi, who spoke with Dutch journalists present before the arrival of the Queen, including about her grandchildren. One of Pelosi’s daughters is married to America-declarer Michiel Vos.
