Lto new Barbie created for the Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee sports ivory ceremonial gowns, complete with a blue ribbon adorned with miniature decorations inspired by royal orders. It is the homage Mattel in limited edition to the sovereign and her 96 years. A doll presented in a box inspired by the colors and symbols of Buckingham Palace – complete with a throne, red carpet and crest logo.
Queen Elizabeth’s tiara is immediately striking
Barbie also sports a tiara inspired by Queen Mary’s iconic fringed tiara, worn by Elisabetta on the occasion of her wedding with Philipin November 1947.
It had been borrowed from the Queen Mother but on the morning of the ceremony, while Elizabeth was dressing at Buckingham Palace, the tiara was damaged and was quickly repaired by the court jeweler. Most recently it has been worn by Beatrice of York for her wedding in Windsor in 2020.
The most important brooch of Queen Elizabeth
Very touching for its strong family connotations is the pink ribbon, given to the queen by her father George VI, while the blue one was passed to her by her grandfather George V. there is also the brooch, which is never missing in Elisabetta’s official outfits: it is the star of the Garter, the highest order of chivalry.
The new Barbie likes …
On sale from April 21 at a cost of $ 75, Queen Elizabeth Barbie size received the endorsement of historian Kate Williams, author of Our Queen Elizabethone of the most important biographies of the sovereign: «It is wonderful to see an iconic brand like Barbie sharing the impact that important historical female figures have as leaders, inventors and pioneers for the new generations».
… But there are those who criticize it
Not everyone, however, is convinced of its similarity. The doll was designed on the image of a younger, wrinkle-free ruler, prompting many to comment on social media: the new Barbie is more reminiscent of Helen Mirren, the English actress who played Elizabeth II on the big screen. And she too with a few years younger.
