Queen Elizabeth II, as the queen’s official title is, appeared on the balcony during the closing of the festivities. In her bright green suit and hat, she was also easily recognizable to everyone in the audience.
Queen Elizabeth not present at every party
Queen Elizabeth had missed a number of parties on Friday and Saturday. On Thursday, the queen experienced ‘some discomfort’ during Trooping the Colour. For example, she was not at the special thanksgiving service that was organized for her. She also skipped the grandiose concert at Buckingham Palace, with many famous artists. She did attend a number of festivities from home.
Sunday afternoon it was time for a gigantic parade, with dancers, antique cars and famous Brits. A procession of buses also passed the palace, with each bus symbolizing one decade of her throne years.
Golden carriage with 25-year-old Elizabeth
Also special: the British golden carriage that was on display again. In that carriage, Elizabeth was taken to her coronation at the age of 25. For the occasion, a hologram of the Queen was projected onto the golden carriage.
It was the first time in twenty years that the carriage was used. It is therefore a special means of transport: the golden carriage is more than 260 years old.

At the end of the day Elizabeth appeared on the balcony after all. She smiled and waved to the people. She was accompanied by her son, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla. Prince William, his wife Duchess Kate and their three children were also on the balcony.
Elizabeth is ‘deeply touched’
This ended the festive weekend. The Queen said in a statement that she was “deeply touched” by the enthusiasm of the British.
“When you’re queen for 70 years, there’s no script to follow for a celebration,” she wrote. “But in the past few days I have felt the kinship and the pleasure.”
