Queen Elizabeth and Marilyn Monroe met in 1956

Queen Elizabeth has met with numerous prominent celebrities during her 70-year reign, says People-magazine. One of them was the iconic Marilyn Monroe. The influential women met at a theater in London in October 1956.

In 1956, Marilyn Monroe arrived with her husband Arthur Millerin with England to shoot their film The Prince and the Show Girl. According to Morgan, Monroe’s interest in the Queen grew during the visit.

– His dream was to drink tea at Buckingham Palace, Morgan writes in his book.

Monroe listed the appointment on her calendar, and hoped her manager would take care of the appointment.

Marilyn finally met the Queen at the end of her filming trip in October 1956. She was unable to drink the tea as she was invited to a theater in London. The most famous movie stars of the time and the queen herself gathered at the Empire Theater on October 29, 1956.

Iconic meeting

The American movie star joined the theater among other actors to await the Queen’s arrival. Tense Monroe waited for the rest of the queue.

The queen is said to have watched Monroe closely from top to bottom when she arrived at the American icon. Morgan says Marilyn took the queen’s hand perfectly.

The women had a brief discussion about England and especially the Queen, which the Queen loved.

– We love it, Marilyn said, and my husband and I will go cycling there as long as we get permission.

After a brief formal discussion, the iconic actor is said to have been enthusiastic. When he left the theater, he told reporters about his meeting with the queen.

– The queen is really warm-hearted and endearing.

The Queen, meanwhile, told UK Magazine in 1961 about her opinion of the actress. The queen became interested in Marilyn, and watched this in all the movies.

– He was a really nice person. I’m sorry for her because she was so nervous that she had licked her lipstick off, the Queen commented on the encounter at the time.
