Tennis professional Jule Niemeier reached the round of 16 of the WTA tournament in San Diego as a qualifier.
The 24-year-old beat Varvara Gracheva from France 6:3, 6:0 on Monday (local time) and will now face the top seeded American Jessica Pegula.
Niemeier had reached the main draw at the event in California by defeating Claire Liu (6:4, 6:2), but now a high hurdle awaits. The second German in San Diego is Tatjana Maria, who will face Leylah Fernandez in the first round.
